R211 (New York City Subway car) : ウィキペディア英語版 | R211 (New York City Subway car)
The R211 is a future new technology (NTT) New York City Subway car to be ordered for the B Division. The MTA will invest $2.956 billion to replace the current fleet of R46s, with 940 cars to be constructed under the order. In addition to the R211, an order of 10 open-gangway experimental prototype cars has been proposed, which would allow passengers to seamlessly walk throughout the train or units. This would bring the total new car count up to 950.〔 The R211 is not officially planned to replace the R44 fleet on the Staten Island Railway; however, replacements for the R44s are said to be underway in the 2015-2019 MTA Capital Program.〔 ==Description== An R211 solicitation was posted in the classified section of Metro Magazine's May 9, 2013 issue, stating the proposal to acquire these cars in the near future. At the time, the order was planned to be in length, the same as the R46 model it will replace. Open-gangways and other alternate configurations were also initially considered for the order. The latest MTA Capital Program specifies an order of cars, which have been the standard length of new B Division cars since the R143 order built from 2001 to 2003, while open-gangways may be tested on a separate prototype train.〔 The order will replace most of the 752 R46s, built in the mid 1970s, and are nearing the end of their useful lives.〔〔〔 The remaining new cars are planned to be used to expand the system's fleet.〔 Most of the R32 fleet, the oldest model in the system at 51 years old, which may not be replaced until around 2022, will possibly be replaced by this order and/or the preceding R179 order. When the design work for the R211 is completed by early 2016, an RFP will be advertised and the contract will be put out for bidding. The contract is expected to be awarded later the same year, at which time the existing R46 fleet will be 41 years old.
